Born as a traditional object, over the ages it has become the symbol of good fortune, bliss and heart fulfillment: originally the RU YI was the stick with the end shaped as the hand fingers, conceived in order to alleviate the itch along the back on the points the hand cannot reach.
The function of practical relief blurred while the time went by and turned into a powerful symbolic meaning: that’s how the RU YI becomes the metaphor of alleviating the pains and of fulfilling the wishes of the heart.
Together with these virtues, the RU YI mutated also the shape: the grip thinned down and shortened, the end changed and looked like the “good omen cloud”.
